About

I’m a bloke in my 40s from the UK with a normal full-time job and a slightly unhealthy habit of looking at maps and wondering where I could go next.

I’m not a full-time traveller. I’m not a professional photographer, travel expert or one of those people who somehow manages to look immaculate after a 14-hour flight.

I’m just someone who discovered a little later in life how much I enjoy travelling — particularly travelling solo — and decided I wanted to do more of it.

Why Ordinary Wanderer?

Travel has changed quite a lot for me. What started as holidays gradually became something I genuinely care about — seeing unfamiliar places, meeting people I would never normally meet and occasionally doing things that seemed like a much better idea when I booked them.

Ordinary Wanderer is my attempt to document that properly.

The YouTube channel follows the trips, mistakes, preparation and adventures as they actually happen. This website is somewhere I can go into a little more detail about the places I’ve visited, the things I’ve done and the gear and services I’ve genuinely used along the way.
